With a Lock-Pod miniatures transport tray, instead of using magnets, the models are held by jaws that immobilize the bases. The jaws are made in soft materials and the edge of the bases will not be damaged.

In order to secure your miniatures on Lock-Pod's trays, you simply need to :

- place your models in the slots corresponding to their base size

- pull the wooden plate that slides to close the jaw surrounding the bases

- repeat for each row of the tray

- slightly tighten the wing nuts of the last row

The tray is more rigid and tight if you fill most (or all) of the slots. If you do not have enough models to put on a tray, you might want to use filler bases. You will at least need to fill two slots on each row of the tray, otherwise the jaws cannot be tightened.

Advantages of Lock-Pod

Compared to a classical solution with magnets, Lock-Pod has two main advantages.

First, the miniatures are held more firmly than with magnets. The parts touching the bases are made of soft plastic, yet the jaws are very strong. Even if the box is dropped, shaken, or kicked, the models absolutely cannot move, and will not be damaged.

Second, there is no need to glue a magnet under each base, after carefully choosing its appropriate strength. You do not run the risk of having a faulty magnet or glue spot. And you do not have to apply any force to remove the miniature from the tray, as you simply need to release the jaws. When a model is magnetized, you have to pull it from the tray to counter the force of the magnet, and risk breaking its fragile parts.

Choosing the tray variant

The tray variants are named according to the base slots they include. Each part of a name represents the base size, followed by the number of slots on the tray for that size.

For example, variant "105x70[3] + 50[2]" has the following slots :

3 oval bases of 105x70 mm

2 round bases of 50 mm

If you cannot find a suitable set of trays to transport your army using existing variants, contact us and send us a list of your miniatures ; we will create additional variants for you.

Some (rare) variants have two similar versions, one of which has fewer small bases. This leaves more space around the larger bases. If you have miniatures that protrude too much from their base, you should opt for the version with fewer small bases. An example would be variants "75x42[6]" and "75x42[6] + 25[2]".

More generally, you will not be able to use all the slots on each plate if you intended to place large miniatures that protrude a lot from their bases. For example, the Black Coach (a Games Workshop miniature from the Nighthaunt range) is simply too long to fit on a M-size tray. If you cannot estimate whether your miniature will fit on a variant, contact us and we will help you.

The flying, flat, transparent bases are not yet supported by the Lock-Pod system.

WARNING, some bases sizes exist in 2 formats, marked (citadel) or (3d). This is because the official sizes, announced for certain bases by Games Workshop, are quite far from the physical sizes of the actual bases. Most have an official size that is slightly different from the actual size, but not different enough for the Lock-Pod system. For others, the margin of error is too large. For example, Games Workshop's 60mm round bases are actually 64mm. A tray variant that would include 3 bases of 60mm would have 2 sub-variants, marked "60(3d)[3]" et "60(citadel)[3]" ; in the second variant, the slots would actually be 64mm. You thus have to choose the variant depending on whether your bases are from a Games Workshop miniatures box, or from another source like 3d printing.
